Under the title "PARECE QUE SÍ" the song commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Society of St. Teresa has been composed by a commission (Pino Delgado stj, Nieves Pérez stj, Thelma Martínez stj and Isabel Ferrando) with the desire to collect in music and words the identity, history and living mission of the Society.
The creative process began with a very clear question: how to compose a simple song that would represent the whole Society, present today in different countries and cultures? From the beginning, the commission's goal was to create a catchy song, easy to remember and sing, capable of accompanying celebrations, meetings and events throughout this special year. We also wanted the music to incorporate rhythms and instruments characteristic of the places where the institution is present today, as an expression of its intercultural richness and universal vocation.
The structure of the hymn also responds to the scheme chosen for the celebration of the 150th anniversary: three stages that go through past, present and future. The first stanza places us at the origin, on that April 2, 1876, when the restless priest Enrique de Ossó wondered how to respond to the world and how to quench his thirst, dreaming of "following Christ alone, alone and nothing else. It is the time of inspiration, of the founding intuition, of that "Is it an illusion or a dream?" that, with audacious faith, becomes a confident "it seems so".
The second stanza brings us to the present: more than a hundred years of history in Africa, America and Europe; a heart that continues to beat in the face of the pain of the world; a shared mission that invites us to "regenerate the whole world" and to live "from the heart". Here the song expresses the current meaning of the Teresian vocation: to be with others, to be a seed of hope, fertile soil, a place of welcome and friendship.
Finally, the third stanza looks to the future. " On the way, in Company", the song reaffirms the desire to continue giving our lives for Jesus, with the certainty that the mission remains open. It is the hope that drives us to continue dreaming and building, faithful to the charism we have received and creative in the face of today's challenges.
The song was recorded by students and teachers of the Santa Teresa del Vedat School in Valencia, Spain, to whom the Society is especially grateful for their collaboration, enthusiasm and generosity. Their voices put a young and committed face to a story that continues to be written.
"It Seems So" is not just a memorial song. It is a declaration of faith and grateful trust. Hopefully it can become a shared song, that makes us sing with one voice the certainty that yes, that God wanted it, that Teresa of Jesus wanted it... and that today we still want it. It seems so.
