Holy Week at PTNSE: from Inspiration to Meaning.

Apr 8, 2026

As part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Society of St. Teresa of Jesus, the Teresian Province of Our Lady of Hope lived a deeply significant Holy Week, marked by the passage from the stage of Inspiration to the stage of meaning, in communion with the entire Teresian Family worldwide.

The journey began on Holy Thursday, April 2, an emblematic date in the history of the Society, which recalls the night in which Father Enrique received the inspiration for this work of Zeal: The Society of St. Teresa of Jesus. That day culminated the first stage of the Jubilee itinerary, “It is today’s inspiration”. It was a time to remember gratefully the beginnings and to recognize all those sisters who preceded us. From Enrique’s experience, we learned to read life with depth, discovering that even in the midst of challenges, God continues to whisper paths of transformation, where difficulties become an opportunity to extend the Kingdom.

That day of Holy Thursday, at a shared table and renewing our commitment to Jesus and the Kingdom, the province began the second stage: “Being Teresian, a meaningful life” celebrated in different communities with creativity, commitment and missionary spirit.

In Venezuela, Ciudad Bolivar, Sister Carmen Sanchez participated actively with the Children and Youth Easter SAP 2026 of the San Antonio de Padua parish, sharing with young people and children formative spaces, liturgical celebrations and community dynamics. Among the most significant experiences was a day of integration on the beaches of the Orinoco River, strengthening the bonds between the participants.

The Sisters’ community began Holy Week with the renewal of vows on April 2. They actively participated in the liturgical celebrations, accompanying with songs and proclamation of the Word, especially in the experience of the Passion of Christ.

In Caracas, the communities of Guacara and Castellana gathered to experience Holy Week together, sharing each celebration and liturgical itinerary in an atmosphere of fraternity.

In Colombia, the community of sisters in Bogota began the week on the eve of April 2, united in prayer with the whole Society in the vigil of Inspiration. Afterwards, they lived the whole Holy Week and the Easter celebration with friends and collaborators of the chapel in the retreat and conviviality house. They concluded with the Easter Vigil, a lively and joyful celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus.

The communities of Envigado and La Candelaria celebrated together with neighbors and parish communities; a very significant moment of special depth was the space of contemplative silence before the monument prepared for the celebration of the Last Supper, where Sister Provincial, Flor Hernández, who traveled from Venezuela to share the beginning of this stage with the sisters of Colombia, accompanied the celebration.

Sister Jury Estupiñán lived an inter-congregational mission experience in Guayatá (Boyacá), in the Diocese of Garagoa, convened by the New Generations Commission of the CRC (Conference of Religious of Colombia). There he accompanied the community throughout Holy Week, in an itinerant process of pastoral closeness and missionary service.

The Aguachica community celebrated this time in close collaboration with the parish community. Strengthening bonds of ecclesial communion.

The Society of Jesus in Sucumbíos (Ecuador) was present on the border and in the depths of the Amazon jungle, among mud, dirt roads and rivers, the sisters celebrated Holy Week with the local peasant and indigenous communities. Some sisters from the Provincial Formation team and the continental novitiate community also traveled there and were distributed in different communities to live missionary experiences from Palm Sunday to Easter.

Finally, a new missionary horizon was opened with the trip of Sister Beatriz Castro, who left Santa Cruz for Cochabamba to begin a new mission, while waiting for the sisters who will join this new project.

Thus, in every corner of the Province, Holy Week was lived as a time of encounter and itinerancy with Jesus, of community and mission, in harmony with the Jubilee journey.

The stage of Inspiration closes and another begins: Sense, where we welcome the invitation to witness the joy and happiness of being Teresians, strengthening our identity and renewing our commitment to the mission.

A time to continue weaving history, with gratitude for the past and hope for the future.
