Agustina de Santa Teresa, born in Gandesa in 1856, stood out for her intellectual capacity and her involvement in the internal organization. She was the first prefect of studies and actively participated in the government of the Society. Enrique de Ossó defined her as a "woman of talent and good spirit", and she was one of his closest collaborators in times of difficulty. She was Secretary General and Saturnina Jassá's right-hand woman. She was a practical, lucid and decisive woman.
"Apostolic soul, magnanimous heart and clear intelligence. Apostolic disposition at the service of education. She lived and taught that the Teresian "must be a martyr of study, if necessary". She was a woman of extraordinary rectitude and a friend of the truth who was not duplicitous". (History of the Company, Volume I)
Born in Calaceite (Teruel) on March 3, 1851, Saturnina is the central figure of the first hour. Of firm character and great interior life, she was the first Superior General of the Society. Her leadership was not based on command, but on example and fruitful silence. Her loyalty to St. Henry and her ability to support the sisters in moments of great uncertainty made her the reference of maternal authority par excellence.
"Saturnina was a woman of extraordinary personality and unusual human qualities. A strong, firm, determined character [...] together with a profound humility that she exercised on many occasions. Her heart was a place of struggle between her energetic temperament and her heroic humility(Historia de Compañía, volume I)."
